Hawley's 2023 Memorial Day Parade!

Hawley kicked off its 2023 Memorial Day Parade on a beautiful, sunny day. It was an excited small town atmosphere as the lineup formed at Riverside Park near Paupack Fuel, waiting for the 1:00 step off. Excitement was in the air, old-time cars carefully gathered, the

Wallenpaupack Area High School band rehearsed, home-town heroes smiled, state and local dignitaries and parade participants readied and most importantly, our cherished servicemen and veterans were present.

It was a beautiful site to see the flag waving in the air as the lineup stepped off with our American Legion Veterans leading, accompanied by Congressman Matt Cartwright, to begin the route. Anticipation was in the air as crowds assembled.

Speaking of crowds, the town was packed! It was wonderful to see young children, adults young and old, all cheering on the parade. Children ran to catch the candy tossed, fisherman cast their rods from the Middle Creek Bridge as the parade passed, spectators who had plotted out their prime viewing spots in fold up chairs proudly waved flags.

Enjoy the sights!

The parade finished at Bingham Park, with the American Legion ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial and the playing of "Taps". Ending the event, the traditional hot dogs, chips and drinks were served from the Senior Center windows to the parade participants, compliments of the IGA Family. Several other organizations offered food and refreshments at their respective sites. For a full list of parade participants, please reference the Tri-County Independent.
